Do You Make These Mistakes When You’re Scrapbooking?

We all make mistakes…

And I’m not talking about choosing the wrong paper, or scrapping the wrong picture, or even messing up the details of the memory…those are all pretty open to interpretation.  Hardcore mistakes, though, are enough to make you think “Man, I wish I hadn’t done that!”  I have a strict rule of not saving psd files, or usually even going back and making changes on a layout, so when I make a mistake, I have to live with it.  These are the three biggest mistakes I usually make.

I don’t check the spelling.  Of everything. – This has come back to burn me more times than I would like to admit, you know, being a teacher and all.  Just recently, my wife noticed one of my layouts and said, “That’s nice Aaron.” I was so thankful that she had recognized the beauty of the layout I had created, until I realized that she was referring to my glaring spelling error in the title.  Yup, nothing says special memories like a layout titled “Remeber.”  Check it out.

I forget to add the date – I am so guilty of this one.  I think that adding the date to a layout is so important for preserving the memories behind it, yet it’s one of the things I almost always forget.  Sometimes I catch it before it’s too late, sometimes I don’t.  I always regret it though.  This past weekend, I did a layout, and as a last finishing touch, I added a tab to put the date on.  By the time I realized I hadn’t actually put the date on the layout, I had already uploaded it to the gallery and deleted the psd files (nope, I don’t keep them!).  Check it out…the tab is on the right side of the layout.

I forget to shadow all of the layers – Shadowing my layout is one of the last things I do.  Often, when I go through and start shadowing, it’s super easy for me to skip over a layer, without really knowing it.  I find myself have to give the layout one good look over to see if everything seems to be shadowed appropriately.

These are the three major things that I always seem to forget when I am finishing up a layout.  In the end, these mistakes are all part of the process, part of the journey.  Still,  hopefully I can help prevent you from making the same mistakes.  What mistakes do you make when you are finishing up a layout?  Let us know in the comments below.

    Funny topic!
Pre-scrapbooking, I forget to regularly upload images to photo developing sites to have lots of photo choices on-hand (That’s the beauty of digi — no waiting on developing!).

Spelling errors like yours and forgetting the dates AND even no journaling on a layout are my scrapping mistakes….
