What Walt Knew…

“To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past…and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America…with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.”

Today marks the 55th Anniversary of the opening of Disneyland in 1955.  Walt Disney was one of the most imaginative people of modern times, and his imagination and creativity are a constant source of inspiration for me.  Walt isn’t always a creative inspiration for me, though.  Often, I find much more to be inspired by in his quotes.  This is my favorite.

“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths” – Walt Disney

While Walt may well have been talking about his industry, this quote has often inspired me in difficult times.  Even when times our bad, even when we feel the world is stacked against us, our curious nature keeps us moving forward.  When we feel like we can’t go any further, we know that with a little imagination and work, we will move ahead.  Our pasts are just that, past.  We cannot live in the past, instead we have to grow and change and progress.  So while he may have been talking about the Disney corporation at the time, Walt knew something else.  Walt knew that this idea was not only the key to creating a great organization, but that it was also a key to creating a great life.

Thanks Walt for inspiring me to move forward.

*Special thanks to Disney Dreamer for the picture and quote from opening day.
